Start Dates
The TESL Certificate Program at Worldport ESL is offered on a continual basis with no set start dates. This means you can apply for admission as soon as you wish. If you are accepted you begin right away, without waiting for a new term to start.

Time Frame
The training provided in this TESL program is offered in a 12-week term of study. With no set start dates, your projected finish date is simply about 12 weeks after you begin. Equivalent to 130 hours of training, the course combines substantial knowledge and practice with feasible requirements of your time and effort. It generally takes about 10 - 12 hours to complete a week's work. We appreciate adults' busy lives and independence, so there is also a lot of flexibility in the time frame. If you wish, you can move through the program more quickly or slowly. We simply evaluate your work when it arrives. If necessary, you can also arrange time extensions.

Prerequisites
To be eligible for admission into the course you must be a native English speaker or fluent in English with minimal accent, and a high school graduate over 18. Given the nature of the program, some post-secondary education is recommended and a university degree is optimal. Mature applicants with less formal education are also considered. In your application we assess areas such as teaching objectives, related experience, language and culture mindfulness, and English grammar knowledge as well.

Application Procedure
There is no fee to apply for admission. To apply for admission you must submit:

  • a completed application form. You can view the form and apply now online, or print the form to apply by mail or fax. If you prefer, you can contact us or request a free Application/Info Pack to receive the form by mail or fax.
  • a clear copy of photo identification showing your date of birth, such as your driver's license or passport. Email, mail or fax this when you send your application form.

When we receive your application form and identification:

    1. Your application is reviewed. Allow about one week.
    2. You are notified of your admission status by phone, fax or email - your choice.
    3. If you are admitted into the program your tuition is due. In your notice, we'll review methods of payment and inform you of currency equivalents if you're outside Canada.
    4. Upon receipt of your tuition, your course materials are sent to you. You can begin!

    Learning Pack
Upon acceptance into the course and receipt of your tuition fee, the learning materials are sent to you by courier. Materials include: the course binder with 12 weeks of work including all worksheets and assignments; 12 pre-labelled envelopes for mailing your work to us, and; the audio cassette tapes for oral correspondence with your teacher. When you receive your learning pack, you'll also find the student contract to complete and return. The contract allows you to confirm receipt of all your course materials.
