TESL Certification Completing the course successfully, you receive a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). While countries, schools and other employers vary in their requirements, your TESL certificate is the basic qualification usually needed to teach. Some positions, particularly in North American and many Asian countries, also require a degree.
