Distance Education
Learning by correspondence has many benefits. The ability to choose your own learning time is a great advantage, especially if your lifestyle demands more flexibility than a set class permits. Self-discipline is certainly required for success in any credible correspondence course, though the independence is another big asset for self-directed people. You can work in your own space, at your own pace, and at the times you choose. The training comes to you. With facilities unnecessary, lower overheads mean less tuition. Educators have realised that people often learn better too, and, in its popularity, distance education is now mainstream. Pursuing a TESL certificate through the distance learning program at Worldport ESL, we're sure you'll enjoy the training you receive and the work you do, knowing there’s always someone to help if you need it.

Student Services

Feedback for your course work is provided ongoing, in oral communication on audio tape and in written comments from your teacher.

Support is available if you need it. The course material is clear and well organised to facilitate self-study. Even so, if you have a concern or you want help, whether it's a materials task, some grammar or anything else, just email, phone or fax the school, or use the contact form in the web site. Help is quick - we check student messages frequently. To correspond with your teacher on matters less pressing, your audio feedback tapes are perfect.

Student Interaction is great, we think. Want to talk to other students? Excellent! On your approval - and only then - we'll exchange your email address with those of other Worldport students wanting to interact. Trade thoughts with a student at a similar point in the course. Chat to someone who's already done what you're doing! Exchange teaching notes with someone taking the course and teaching at the same time. Perhaps you continue to correspond with your TESL colleagues after you graduate, sharing classroom ideas and events in your career.

Job Placement Assistance is available free, as part of our student services. We believe it's unfair practice to promise you a job guarantee with loopholes in the fine print. As a Worldport graduate however, you can be certain that you'll receive our job search help. For teaching positions internationally, we'll supply you with current leads from our databank of employers. From our files, see sample job offers and information on the international job market. We'll also make sure you know important web sites related to TESL employment. We'll give you professional guidance in preparing an effective resume, to apply for positions. As well, on your request, we'll provide you with a letter of recommendation, which you know is always helpful in approaching prospective employers and making key connections. In continued free job assistance, access our resources not just when you're done the course but when you change jobs too. For help finding a teaching post, let us know.

Our partnership with AIESEC facilitates a great job placement venue and cross-cultural resource for our TESL graduates who are also university students or recent university graduates. AIESEC is the largest student organisation in the world, with a network of offices in over 740 universities in 87 countries. Through its international exchange program, AIESEC matches employers with employees around the world, and provides support services such as cultural preparedness and helpful contacts in host countries. For job opportunities when you graduate, tell us if you wish to take advantage of our AIESEC partnership. We'll connect you with an AIESEC member near you, who may verify your Worldport ESL teacher training and certificate by contacting us either directly or through our chapter at the University of Windsor, Canada. Your local AIESEC will then work with you to help find a job you'd like.

Extension courses are currently being developed by the school, to build on the training in the TESL Certificate Program presently administered. The courses give those with a base in TESL training the opportunity to pursue professional development in different areas of focus. The extension courses are smaller, so the additional training is completed in less time. They are available to anyone seeking professional development, although Worldport graduates are eligible to take them at special rates.
